Support the North Coast Tanker Ban

Northwest BC residents have worked long and hard for a legislated ban on crude oil tankers in our northern waters. When he was elected in 2015, Justin Trudeau promised he would protect our northern waters by implementing just such a ban. The legislation his government drafted, Bill C-48, the Oil Tanker Moratorium Act, goes a long way towards protecting the Pacific North Coast from the threat of crude oil spills from tankers. Any future crude oil supertanker proposals like Enbridge’s Northern Gateway would be taken off the table for good. Although the bill passed the House of Commons in May 2018, it has since been stalled in the unelected Senate while oil industry lobbyists pressure Senators to give up on the north coast oil tanker ban. The bill is currently being reviewed by the Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications, and at this critical phase Senators need to hear that Northwest BC residents support Bill C-48. Let the members of the Senate Committee know that you want this bill to become law.
