An independent science review panel (ISRP) has been set up to study the salmon management crisis on the Skeena River.
The Pacific Salmon Foundation (PSF), spearheading the project, made the announcement last week. The ISRP will examine whether current and possible future management practices are consistent with the principals outlined by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) Wild Salmon Policy, with the explicit intention of achieving long-term sustainability of First Nations fisheries and enhance the viability and sustainability of the commercial and recreational fisheries.
