Help protect the Skeena Watershed by volunteering with us!
Get outdoors and explore the natural ecosystem during salmon spawner surveys, water quality testing or invasive species removal. Or volunteer at one of our special events or kids camps. Volunteers are extremely important to SkeenaWild, and we are incredibly grateful to have so many individuals who support our organization by donating their time with us. If you are passionate about environmental stewardship, we have a volunteer opportunity perfect for you! Fill out the volunteer application form and submit it to email@example.com.
SkeenaWild’s New Adopt-A-Stream Program
SkeenaWild is excited to announce that we are introducing a Citizen Science Volunteer Water Quality Monitoring Program. We are looking for 8 volunteer monitoring teams to adopt a local stream to conduct water quality tests on a monthly basis between April and September. Teams can be families, friends, community groups, or businesses, or you can join an open team.
Each team will be provided with a water quality monitoring kit that will include all supplies and equipment to evaluate: (1) Dissolved Oxygen; (2) Temperature; (3) pH; and (4) Turbidity. Each kit will also include supplies and equipment to undertake aquatic macroinvertebrate (water bugs) surveys. Each team will be responsible to conduct these water quality tests at their sample sites once per month and provide the monitoring data sheets to SkeenaWild. This will establish baseline data as well as regular monitoring data for several local streams so that we can determine whether stream restoration work may be required. Training will be provided to each team prior to the onset of monitoring.
If you are interested in more information about participating in this Citizen Science Water Quality Monitoring Program, please contact Christine Slanz, Education & Outreach Coordinator at SkeenaWild.
