Garbathon 2025
Terrace Community Gearing Up for 40th Annual Earth Day “Garb-a-thon”
Celebrate Earth Day
Spring cleanup season is here, and Terrace community members are once again rolling up their sleeves to take part in a long-standing community tradition. On Sunday, April 27th, the 40th annual Earth Day Community Garb-a-thon will bring people together to spruce up our community- from the riverbanks to city streets.
2024 Event

Join Us on Sunday April 27
The event is hosted by the Greater Terrace Beautification Society (GTBS), SkeenaWild Conservation Trust, the City of Terrace, the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine (RDKS) and The Steelhead Society of BC – Northern Branch.
The Garb-a-thon traces back to 1985 when local merchants organized the first community-wide garbage pick-up. By the following year, the Greater Terrace Beautification Society was formed and took the lead on what has since become a celebrated annual event.
“Year after year, we’re blown away by the turnout,” says Tara Irwin, Director of Parks, Recreation & Culture for the City of Terrace. “This event is about pride in our community—making sure our streets, trails, and riverbanks are clean, safe, and beautiful for everyone.”
In recent years, over 250 people have participated annually, and organizers hope to see even more volunteers this time. “The Garb-a-thon really shows what is possible when the community comes together,” says Julia Hill Sorochan, Executive Director at SkeenaWild. “I’m always inspired to see local businesses, organizations, and residents work side-by-side to make a difference.”
Here’s how to get involved:
On Sunday, April 27th, head to George Little Park in Terrace between 12 pm and 4 pm to grab gloves and garbage bags. Volunteers can then head out to a location of their choice to collect garbage. Afterwards, return to the park to enter a prize draw and pick up a free McDonald’s ice cream voucher as a thank-you for your hard work. You can also RSVP on the official Facebook event page.
This year’s Garb-a-thon is proudly supported by Spotted Horse Farm & Nursery, Conservation Officer Service, Dairy Queen, Baker Extraordinaire, ABC Recycling, Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO), McDonald’s, and Environmental 360 Solutions Ltd. (E360S), Pronto Towing, Ascent Coffee Roasters, Visit Terrace, Fish Tales, Boston Pizza and Terrace Off-Road Cycling Association (TORCA).
