SkeenaWild is seeking an energetic, creative, and enthusiastic candidate to assist with our environmental education and volunteer stewardship programs. The candidate will work alongside our Education & Volunteer Program Coordinator.
The Organization:
SkeenaWild Conservation Trust is a leading conservation organization dedicated to protecting and restoring the wild salmon, steelhead, and ecosystems of the Skeena watershed and the surrounding landscapes of Northwest British Columbia. The organization was established in 2007 to address the pressing challenges facing one of the world’s most significant salmon-bearing ecosystems.
Hours & Compensation:
This position offers between 35 and 40 hours per week, with some weekend work required. Compensation ranges from $18 to $20 per hour, based on experience.
Eligibility:
Funding for this position is provided through the Canada Summer Jobs Program. To be eligible, you must be between 15 and 30. Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial legislation and regulations.




Preferred Qualifications
↠ Studying or demonstrated interest in one of the following fields: biology, ecology, earth and ocean sciences, environmental management, fisheries or natural resource management, Indigenous studies, education, or a related field.
↠ Strong interest in the mission and activities of SkeenaWild Conservation Trust.
↠ Experience working with children and youth.
↠ Good written and verbal communication skills; comfortable working with the public.
↠ A self-starter with the ability to work independently, problem-solve, and work as part of a team within a non-profit organization.
↠ Comfortable working in an office setting, at community events, and streamsides.
↠ Good computer skills and social media skills.
↠ Knowledge of the Skeena region’s, Pacific salmon, and conservation issues would be an asset.
↠ Added assets would be a driver’s license, access to a vehicle, and first aid training.
Job Description
The Environmental Education Assistant plays a dynamic and physically engaging role that combines administrative tasks with hands-on science and nature-based camp activities. In this position, you’ll help lead outdoor nature-based summer camps, attend community events, markets, and pop-ups, and assist with outreach and education around salmon, watersheds, and ecosystems.
In addition to public-facing work, this position includes behind-the-scenes planning and administrative tasks, such as helping to develop new activities, updating existing curriculum, creating content for social media, and supporting general program organization.
Duties and Responsibilities
↠ Develop and plan curriculum, including inquiry science-based activities, arts, games, and crafts.
↠ Lead summer science camps for groups of children and youth, including preparation and clean up.
↠ Deliver community education and awareness programs, such as nature interpretative walks and school programs.
↠ Assist with the SkeenaWild volunteer stewardship program’s organization and activities.
↠ Public outreach and community engagement at events as they arise.
↠ Administrative duties and other project-related tasks as required.
